The Common Wealth of Kentucky book studies the rich Kentucky experience and that which connects us, the humans who live here. Through the eyes, voices, and personal narratives of 70 people who call Kentucky home, you will learn something new and come to understand this commonwealth uniquely.

Written and sound-produced by Beth Pride with original artwork by Kentucky impressionist painter Kelly Brewer, this limited edition, 11x11 vibrant, full-color book chronicles a year-long project traveling Kentucky, painting people, and recording their stories. The book is a unique and powerful multi-sensory experience where visual, written, and oral storytelling converge into an artful impression with an essential purpose of benefiting Kentuckians in need. See the history in their eyes, read about their lives, and connect by scanning the QR codes to hear the distinct sound of their human voices.

This book is not a history or a travel guide; it is a study of the rich Kentucky experience and that which connects us, the humans who live here and the unique places they call home. Through the eyes, voices, and personal narratives of 70 people, you will learn something new and come to understand the commonwealth uniquely. And while we could not cover nor represent every Kentuckian, we hope to reveal the overarching richness of the state and the commonality of the people who comprise it. Their story is the Kentucky story, inspired by a love of humanity and all that connects us.

There is much to learn from those with whom we walk this earth. The portraits are an impression of a common wealth of Kentuckians as they sat and told their stories while Kelly painted them from life. You can see the history in their eyes, read part of what makes them tick, and if you point your smartphone camera at the QR codes on each narrative page and click the link that pops up, you can hear their voices as they share. We believe you will connect with them too.
