Death by Equine by Annette Dashofy

Veterinarian Jessie Cameron agrees to fill in for her mentor, Doc Lewis, at Riverview Racetrack so he can take a long-overdue vacation. When he's tragically killed by one of his equine patients the night before he's supposed to leave, Jessie quickly suspects the death is anything but accidental. Her search for the truth is thwarted by everyone from well-meaning friends to the police, including her soon-to-be-ex-husband.

Undaunted, she discovers layers of illegal activities and deceit being perpetrated by the man she thought of as a father figure, creating a growing list of suspects with reason to want Doc dead. Too late, she realizes that her dogged quest for the truth has put her in the crosshairs of a devious killer desperate to silence her. Permanently.

USA Today best-selling author Annette Dashofy has spent her entire life in rural Pennsylvania surrounded by cattle and horses. When she wasn’t roaming the family’s farm or playing in the barn, she could be found reading or writing. After high school, she spent five years as an EMT on the local ambulance service, dealing with everything from drunks passing out on the sidewalk to mangled bodies in car accidents. These days, she, her husband, and their spoiled cat, Kensi, live on property that was once part of her grandfather’s dairy.

Her Zoe Chambers mysteries includes five Agatha Award nominees. The eleventh in the series, Fatal Reunion, was released in May 2022 from Level Best Books.

Annette's standalone, Death by Equine, a traditional mystery set in the world of Thoroughbred racing, has been named a finalist for the 2021 Dr. Tony Ryan Book Award.

Her short fiction, including a 2007 Derringer finalist which features the same characters as her novels, has appeared in Mysterical-e, Spinetingler, Fish Tales: the Guppy Anthology, and Lucky Charms: 12 Crime Tales. She has also released Crime in the Country: A Zoe Chambers Anthology which includes six short stories featuring the characters from the series.

Racetrack Rogues by Dawn LeFevre

Nineteen-year-old Dahlia Leggett never dreamed that she’d wind up back at Garden State Park, training a ragtag stable of misfit Thoroughbreds. Or that she’d fall for Steve, the sexy son of legendary trainer Bill Bassett, her nemesis. But after the sudden death of her estranged mother Marilyn, it’s goodbye college and hello racetrack.

Marilyn had once been a star jockey but her relationship with her daughter was less than stellar. Robbed of sharing in a cheesy chick-flick reconciliation with her mother, Dahlia is left with only memories, boxes of racing memorabilia, and a cottage on her grandparents’ horse farm. When she stumbles upon a shocking videotape among Marilyn’s possessions, it threatens her precarious relationship with Steve but reveals a way that she can make amends to her mother.

Can Dahlia achieve her mother’s dream without losing the man she loves?

Run With a Mighty Heart by Jennifer Morrison

With the right team, miracles can happen. Even during a global pandemic. Welcome to the story of Mighty Heart, a one-eyed bay colt who captured the attention of horse racing fans all over the world when he won the 2020 Queen's Plate, Canada's iconic Thoroughbred race, at Woodbine racetrack.

It is the comeback story of a horse whose outlook was bleak after his first few disappointing races, and got worse when the pandemic largely shut down horse racing. It is the comeback story of an owner, Larry Cordes, who had stepped away from racing after suffering a series of personal tragedies.

Larry was always smitten with horses and racing, and became an owner when his late wife gave him a birthday gift of a racehorse. A leader in the heavy machine industry in Ontario, Larry's love for horses became a warm and fulfilling family affair as his wife and daughters joined him in his fabulous obsessions.

But the tight-knit group was rocked by the deaths of three family members that forever changed their perspectives on life and Larry, crestfallen, stepped away from his passion.

Nine years later, he returned with renewed love for horse racing, and an idea to breed his own horse with the help of some of the finest minds in Ontario's Thoroughbred industry. It is a heartwarming, comeback story-all because of a little horse that could.

Run With a Mighty Heart is a refreshing, joyful read that is full of hope and wonder-showcasing that it truly takes a team to overcome the hurdles that we face in life. We are left cheering at the end.

Jennifer Morrison is an elite storyteller who has covered horse racing for almost four decades, writing for some of the country's most esteemed publications. Her work has appeared in the Globe and Mail and the Toronto Star, among other places, and has earned her three Sovereign Awards, given out by the Jockey Club of Canada to recognize excellence in horse racing journalism. Jennifer's deep love and passion for horses has allowed her to form relationships and tell stories that would be beyond most writers.

Inspired by the journey of Mighty Heart, Jennifer took pen to paper to tell the world of this incredible yet improbable story of a one-eyed horse and his human family.
