By His Side

By His Side, a work of historical fiction, tells the story of George Washington and his enslaved valet, William Lee. Set at Mount Vernon during the last three days of Washington’s life the book explores Washington’s changing views of slavery, his flashbacks to events that took place during the Revolutionary War and the part that William Lee played in those events. By His Side also looks at these subjects through the eyes of William Lee. He remembers being bought by General Washington, being made head of the fox hunt, riding beside the General during the Revolution, carrying his spyglass, combing his hair and hearing decisions made that would affect battles.

Cincinnati Christmas

Cincinnati Christmas examines the celebration of Christmas in Cincinnati through the centuries. The city, founded only a few days after Christmas in 1788, has a rich relationship with the holiday, and this book contains many treasures connected with it. Nicholas and Susan Longworth’s celebration of their fiftieth wedding anniversary on Christmas Eve, Christmas during the Civil War and the years to follow, memories of downtown window displays and pantomimes, letters from soldiers during World War II, stories from an Ohio River towboat at Christmas and angels in the city are just some of the many Yuletide vignettes that are part of this book. Original documents, letters, newspaper reports, art and lush photography bring Christmas in this lovely river town alive, capturing the joy of a special season in a special place.

Littsie and the Underground Railroad

Littsie O'Donnell, orphaned by the cholera epidemic of 1832, tells the story of struggling to raise her little sister and of her involvement in the Underground Railroad. Her friendship with a former slave, Euleen Randolph, is deepened as they both discover the meaning of freedom and the sacrifice it takes to be an Underground Railroad Conductor. Their story brings to life abolitionists such as Harriet Beecher Stowe, James Birney, Theodore Weld, William Casey and Angelina Grimke. Aided in their adventures by a former circus horse, Dan, they grow up learning that freedom does not come easily; it requires courage and commitment.

Littsie of Cincinnati

Litttsie O'Donnell, daughter of Irish immigrants, tells the story of growing up in colorful, dynamic, early Cincinnati. When the cholera epidemic of 1832 devastates her family, she responds to this tragedy with bravery and determination. Her survival is assured when such prominent citizens as Dr. Daniel Drake, Nicholas Longworth and Frances Trollope help her. Littsie's story involving pioneer life, separated sisters, steamboats and slavery is one of high adventure and persistent courageous love.

Jake and Sam at the Empty Abbey

Jake and Sam, brother and sister evacuated from London in order to escape Hitler's bombs, find them- selves in the care of the horrid Miss Bottomley and her pet ferret, Fulham. A monk, who cares for the abandoned abbey in their small village, gives them help and support and when he tells Jake and Sam the legend of Pevensey Abbey, their curiosity leads them to unexpected but delightful consequences. Jake and Sam At The Empty Abbey is a warm and humorous story of high adventure, hope, bravery and family love.

Henri: A Christmas Donkey Story

Henri: A Christmas Donkey Story is a story about Christmas and a story about a donkey. Henri enjoys many things; nature, the barn, the pasture, his friends-- and he loves to HEE and HAW. This becomes a problem when he learns he will be taking his mother's place at a special Christmas stable in the big city. Henri's struggle for self-control and his reaction to his new experiences make this a charming and delightful Christmas story.

We Dance

We Dance is a book of poetry that invites us to look at life’s moments of youth and old age, the gifts of nature and the joy of being. Illustrated with evocative photos, the collection contains memories and magical thinking.
